Changes To The Licensing System

On October 19, 2005 the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) implemented new regulations which apply to the Amateur Radio service in Australia. These changes are a direct result from the 2003 World Radio Communications Conference (WRC). This information can be found at The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU)

As a result of these changes, a three tier level of Amateur Radio license (AOPC) was introduced

ADVANCED LICENSE
AOPC (A)

The Advanced licensing option allows operation on all amateur bands allocated in Australia. This licence replaces the Unrestricted, Intermediate and Limited licence's.

Certificate of proficiency requirements for Advanced amateur licensing options

  • Amateur Operator's Certificate of Proficiency (Advanced) (AOCP(A)); or
  • Amateur Operator's Certificate of Proficiency (AOCP); or
  • Amateur Operator's Limited Certificate of Proficiency (AOLCP).

Permitted Frequencies and Modes

 

 

   

 

STANDARD LICENSE
AOPC (S)

The Standard licensing option allows restricted operation on the 3.5, 7, 14, 21, 28, 52, 144, 430, 1240, 2400 and 5650 MHz amateur bands. This licence replaces the Novice and Novice Limited licence's.

  • Amateur Operator's Certificate of Proficiency (Standard) (AOCP(S)); or
  • Novice Amateur Operator's Certificate of Proficiency (NAOCP); or
  • Novice Limited Amateur Operator's Certificate of Proficiency (NLAOCP)

FOUNDATION LICENSE
AOPC (F)

The introduction of the Foundation licensing brings a new entry level with restricted operation on the 3.5, 7, 21, 28, 144 and 430 MHz amateur bands.
